The consortium

In order to guarantee the management and the protection of the natural areas of the Llobregat delta, the Consortium of the Natural Areas of Delta del Llobregat was constituted in 1985. It is made up and financed by the Ministry of the Environment and Housing of the Generalitat of Catalonia, and the city halls of Prat de Llobregat and Viladecans.

The Consortium intervenes in spaces of special protection of Delta del Llobregat. Nowadays it manages the natural areas of El Prat and Viladecans, and in the future it will manage those of Gavá and Sant Boi as well. It acts as an autonomous entity of the administrations that make it up, and it executes agreements for the management and preservation of natural areas. The Consortium also has contacts with several associations and organisations that could help to reach its objectives or finance its activities.

Goal

To be a reference point in Catalonia and worldwide regarding public land management, preservation, study and spread of the natural values and landscape of the Llobregat delta, and improvement of the recreational and educational use of the natural environment.

Mission

To extend and improve public use offer and natural areas facilities, as well as to increase the number of metropolitan visitors in order to expand their knowledge and raise their positive valuation of this area as recreational and educational natural areas of quality.

To consolidate the natural areas as reference areas for the promotion of biodiversity and of the set of projects, studies and researches that allow the management of the natural and landscape values, as well as to have an effect on the habitat recovery and on the protection of the flora and the fauna which are typical in the Delta.

To link institutions, organizations and companies to the Llobregat delta, so that they act as facilitators in defence and promotion of this valuable and, at the same time, fragile space which is located just in the centre of the conurbation of Barcelona.

EXTERNAL CONTRACTS

Environmental Information Service. – It carries out tasks of reception and information about public open spaces. Nowadays the Associació Catalana de Cases de Colònies (Summer Camp Catalan Association) provides 18 educators available in different periods and timetables.

Brigade of maintenance and conditioning of habitats. - Habitually we have a CIRE (Centre of Initiatives for Rehabilitation of the Ministry of Justice) brigade at our disposal, which is formed by 8 workmen and a chief, 4 days a week. Also we count on maintenance workshops of natural areas in the city halls.

Vigilance service. – This service is carried out by particular field guards, especially at the weekends and holidays. The body of Rural Agents of the Generalitat and rural vigilance units of the Local Police also collaborate with us.

Head office and technical office

Head office and technical office of the Consortium is nowadays located in the Centre of Environmental Information "Cases d'en Puig" of the City Hall of El Prat. The natural areas also have a biological station in the natural space of Remolar-Filipines in Viladecans; centres of information and numerous equipments of observation of fauna, vegetation and landscape, like towers and observatories , complete the network of equipments of the natural areas of Llobregat delta.
